VIT School of Design (V-SIGN) offers one of the best facilities for design research, consultancy, training and growth for faculty members. The main objective of the programmes is to create a new breed of problem solvers in the domain of industrial design.
The Bachelor of Design also referred as B.Des or B.Design is an undergraduate academic degree deals with creating products that are functionally good, aesthetically appealing and ergonomically comfortable.
World Design Organization defines industrial design as a strategic problem-solving process that drives innovation, builds business success, and leads to a better quality of life through innovative products, systems, services, and experiences.
Eligibility Criteria:
Applicants who have studied through regular, full-time, and formal education with English as one of the subjects are eligible to apply.
Students who have appeared for their 10+2/HSC examination and are awaiting results are also eligible to apply, provided they submit their passing certificate by the notified date.
Nationality:
The applicant should be a Resident Indian National.
Age Limit:
Applicants born on or after 01.07.2004 are eligible to apply for B.Des admission for the academic year 2026-2027.
Applicants must submit the Age proof (Birth certificate/ Passport copy) as proof of their age during counselling/admission. Failure to do so will result in disqualification from the admission process.
Qualifying Examination:
The final examination of the 10+2 system, conducted by any recognized Central/ State Board, such as the Central Board of Secondary Education, New Delhi; Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations or any other Board accepted by VIT as equivalent to 10+2 examination.
Intermediate or two-year Pre-University Examination conducted by a recognized Board/ University.
General Certificate Education (GCE) examination (London/Cambridge) at the Advanced (A) level.
High School Certificate Examination at the Advanced (A) level of the Cambridge University/Pearson Edexcel regulated by UK.
High School Certificate Examination of the International Baccalaureate Diploma of the International Baccalaureate Office, Geneva.
Senior Secondary School Examination conducted by the National Institute of Open Schooling with minimum of 5 subjects as recognized by central board.
Candidates who have appeared for multiple board examinations in the same academic year are not eligible.
Subject Eligibility in the Qualifying Examination:
A pass with minimum overall aggregate of 60% in any stream in the qualifying examination. Candidates with qualified UCEED score/V-DAT are only eligible for Admission.
n case, applicants belong to SC/ST community or hail from Jammu and Kashmir/ Ladakh and the North Eastern States of Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim and Tripura, 10% relaxation is provided.
Certificate to prove Community / Nativity should be produced at the time of counselling, failing which will not be considered for admission.
VIT DAT is the exam for the candidates who have not attended UCEED exams or not having UCEED score.
The selection process consists of three stages:
VIT DAT - written exam of 2 hours duration consisting of objective type questions - MSQ & MCQ, short descriptive answers, and creative ability questions with no negative marking (Weightage 50%)
Portfolio - presentation of original creative works like sketching, drawing, painting, craftworks, and photography, etc. (Weightage 30%)
Personal interview - (Weightage 20%)

Declaration of Results:
A rank list is prepared based on 10+2/HSC marks and UCEED score/ VIT-DAT score (VIT-Design Aptitude Test).
The admission will be based on the merit and subject to meeting the required eligibility criteria.

Selection Criteria:
Admission will be based on the obtained rank.
Seat allotment is based on the candidates rank and seat availability.
Information regarding seat allotment, instructions for admission fee payment, and downloading the allotment letter will be communicated to the candidates.
Candidates can download the provisional admission letter after full fee payment.
Provisional admission will be cancelled at any point of time if the candidate fails to fulfill the eligibility requirements.
The fact that a candidate has been qualified and shortlisted does not guarantee admission to him/ her.
